Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 17, 2026  ·  Applies to: Daerie (Android, package com.gunlukarkadasim)

1Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Daerie ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our journaling app. Daerie is built around a simple principle: your journal is yours. This policy tells you exactly what data we handle, why, and what control you have over it.

By using Daerie, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.

2Data We Collect

Account information

When you sign in (e.g., via Google Sign-In), we receive your name, email address, and profile ID associated with that account, so we can identify your account and sync your data across devices.

Journal content

Everything you create in the app — diary entries, drawings, cover and theme selections, and goals — is stored so the app can function and so your entries sync to your account.

AI chat content

If you use AI Chat or request an AI-generated monthly report, the text of your messages (and relevant journal context needed to generate a response) is processed as described in Section 4.

Subscription & purchase data

If you subscribe to Mini or Pro, Google Play Billing shares purchase tokens, product IDs, and subscription status with us so we can unlock the correct features on your account. We do not receive or store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Google Play.

Device & technical data

We automatically collect limited technical information — such as app version, device model, operating system version, language setting, and crash diagnostics (via Firebase Crashlytics) — to keep the app stable and fix bugs.

We use Firebase Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the app is used — for example, which screens and features are opened most often. This helps us prioritize improvements. This data is not linked to your journal content.

Security data (local only)

If you enable an in-app PIN or biometric lock, this is verified using your device's own secure hardware/OS APIs. We do not receive or store your PIN or biometric data — it never leaves your device.

3How We Use Your Data

We do not use your journal content to train AI models, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4AI Features & Third-Party Processing

Important

When you use AI Chat or request an AI monthly report, the relevant text is sent to our AI infrastructure provider (OpenRouter) which routes the request to the underlying AI model to generate a response. This processing happens only when you actively use these features — Free accounts cannot access AI Chat, and it is never used passively in the background.

5Third-Party Services & Sharing

We share limited data with the following service providers, solely to operate the app:

ProviderPurposeData involved
Firebase (Google)Authentication, database (Firestore), crash reporting, backend functions, analyticsAccount info, journal content, device/crash data, app usage/interaction data
Google Play BillingSubscription purchasesPurchase token, product ID, subscription status
OpenRouter (AI provider)Generating AI chat responses and reportsChat message text, relevant journal context

We do not sell your personal data. We only disclose data to third parties as described above, to comply with the law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Daerie or our users.

6Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored using Firebase infrastructure, which encrypts data in transit and at rest. Access to your journal data is restricted through Firestore security rules that tie data to your authenticated account.

Journal entries are not end-to-end encrypted. We made this choice deliberately: end-to-end encryption would mean a forgotten password results in permanent, unrecoverable data loss, which we consider a worse outcome for a personal journal. Your data is protected by Firebase's infrastructure-level encryption and strict access rules, and, optionally, by an in-app PIN/biometric lock on your device.

No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We continuously review our security practices to reduce risk.

7Data Retention

We retain your account and journal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account), your data is permanently removed from our active systems, aside from what we are legally required to retain (e.g., certain billing records) or what may briefly persist in backups before automatic rotation.

8Your Rights & Choices

9EU / EEA & UK Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, and the right to object to certain processing. Our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (providing the app and subscriptions you sign up for), your consent (for AI features), and our legitimate interests (app stability and security).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app deletion tool described above or contact us at the email in Section 14.

10California Users (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion of that information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. You can exercise your deletion rights directly via Settings → Delete Account, or by contacting us.

11Children's Privacy

Daerie is not directed at children and is not designed for users under the minimum age of digital consent in their country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

12International Data Transfers

Because we use global infrastructure providers (Firebase/Google Cloud, OpenRouter), your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses used by our providers) to protect data transferred internationally.

13Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app or legal requirements. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above, and where appropriate, communicated in-app. Continued use of Daerie after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
